District Salzwedel
The District of Salzwedel is located in the north of Saxony-Anhalt. The size is 2.293 square kilometres. Beautiful Hanseatic towns with medieval town centres, wide green landscapes and lively businesses are at home here. Together with the District of Stendal, the ALTMARK region promotes itself under the umbrella brand DIE ALTMARK - GRÜNE WIESE MIT ZUKUNFT (Altmark - green meadow with future). The District of Salzwedel is a rural district that offers a lot to the people who live in it, work in it and visit it as guests: Here you will find a special mixture of forests, near-natural small rivers, the deepest lake in Saxony-Anhalt (Arendsee), meadows and fields, pretty villages, down-to-earth people and a comprehensive infrastructure.
District Boerde
The District of Börde was formed on 1 July 2007 by merger of the old districts of Börde and Ohrekreis. The name patron saint of the 2,366 square kilometre district is the very fertile soil of Magdeburger Börde between the heathland Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide and Harz foreland. In the recent past, the district has also developed from an agricultural region into a sustainable industrial location. The motorways A2 and A14, the Mittelland Canal, a well-developed railway network and the proximity to the technology centres of Magdeburg and Braunschweig reflect the business location. In addition, the region impresses with churches, monasteries, palaces and castles worth seeing. The district draws its special attractions from the diversity of its landscapes with the fertile soil of Börde in the south, the meadow and swamp area of Drömling in the north and the heathland Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide with the largest closed linden forest in Europe.
WWF Germany
The World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) is a globally active nature conservation organization. WWF’s global network currently maintains 13,000 environmental and nature conservation projects in 150 countries. As early as the 1970s, WWF Germany purchased land in the Lower Saxony part of Drömling and supported damming measures. In Saxony-Anhalt, the WWF, together with the relevant districts, founded the former joint body Zweckverband Naturschutzprojekt Drömling/Sachsen-Anhalt as project executing agency and has since been present with two representatives at the body’s general meeting.
