The current Droemling’s flat land is the result of two hundred years of systematic landscaping and constitutes a cultural landscape characterised by extensively used grassland. However, since 1990 nature conservation efforts allowed natural, self-dynamic processes on approximately 900 hectares developing indigenous carr. At certain times of the year, as a silent observer man withdraws and leaves action to nature. Any kind of land cultivation is suspended from December to April, and migrating and resting birds use flooded grassland as a rest area.
